This is even more amazing...what software would you use to create these animations other than photoshop.

Skydog - I don't know I don't think it's Photoshop but my knowledge of animation is nil. I did see a large bunny statue in Utrecht (in front of the University) that I suspect is what he uses for a source image.

(warning - the artist in this link has a casual European attitude towards nudity in other words probably NSFW)
More in a somewhat similar vein. Matt Whyman

Re: Mattijn Franssen

These images are really what i aspire to. but i have trouble making different images have similar colour ranges to each other in a composition. If that makes sense...?
When i put different images into one composition they are obviously different images. As in the linked website although the images aren't real they have the same colour composition throughout.
Do you know how this is done or is it a matter of choosing/using images with similar ranges already? He obvioulsy takes his own shots so can control that to a certain degree but it would be good to konw of a tutorial or good tips to do this.
I hope all that made sense!
Mike

Re: Mattijn Franssen

Mike,

I don't know how he does it. I know how others say they do it. You need to match tonal range with levels/curves and color range with hue/saturation layer(s)

(Photoshop almost always has multiple ways of achieving the same effect, personally I like using curves and gradients & textures to match up composited images). There are other considerations also which are beyond the scope of this thread. Steve Caplin has a wonderful book about this very subject (photomontage) called 'How to Cheat at Photoshop' - 'The art of creating realistic photomontage'. It's extremely well written, by that I mean easy to understand, beautifully organized and fun to read.

HTH Nancy

I aspire to something like this also

I didn't see his cat on the photo where he was naked facing a dinosaur with no head.

He must really love his cat.

Re: Mattijn Franssen

I'm willing to bet that the animations are done in AfterEffects. Photoshop can't do that kind of work, but you can import layered psd files into AE and pull this off easy.

Interview with Mattijn Franssen

"...I think I work in different styles, some is surreal with influences from artists like Magritte René Magritte
(21 November 1898 – 15 August 1967)
Belgian surrealist artist.
He became well known for a number of witty
and thought-provoking images., some bizarre influences by Escher Maurits Cornelis Escher
(17 June 1898 – 27 March 1972)
Dutch graphic artist. He is known for his often
mathematically inspired woodcuts,
lithographs, and mezzotints. and David Lynch David Keith Lynch
(born January 20, 1946)
American filmmaker and visual artist
known for films like Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks. Sometimes i try to come close to the look of an old painting like a work from Anne-Louis Girodet Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson
(January 5, 1767 – December 9, 1824)
French painter and pupil of Jacques-Louis David,
who was part of the beginning of the Romantic movement
by adding elements of eroticism through
his paintings. for example and I make some magic realistic lonely landscapes that show influences from Hopper Edward Hopper
(July 22, 1882 – May 15, 1967)
prominent American realist painter and printmaker and Willink..." Albert Carel Willink
(7 March 1900 – 19 October 1983)
well known Dutch painter who called his style
of Magic realism "imaginary realism"

(the links came with the quote from the story - I didn't do any research.)

Not to split hairs with my first post, but you could do it in Photoshop if you do it frame by frame, or the stip effect.

He could also be using a higher end nodal compositor such as Nuke, Shake, or even Flame.
