photoshop to illustrator

Im not sure if this is the best place to post, but I have an illustrator question. I don't actually have that program, so I can't troubleshoot.

I have a PS file with 2 layers. One is a layer with a product cut out (normal blending mode). The other is a shadow layer with a Multiplied blending mode.

When you drag these 2 files over to illustrator, it automatically flattens the PS file and the multiplied layer turns to normal and ruins the shadow.

Is there an option to turn off the auto flatten?

There is an option to flatten or keep separate layers.

First open a new document, then choose file>place, then choose your .psd document, You got now a windows with some options (see image attached), and voila! (PSCS4 & Illy CS4).

Just be aware (and a lot of people make this mistake) If something is set to multiply, say a shadow in Photoshop, then it wont multiple in Illustrator, you have to dupe the image and set the underlying image to multiply in Illustrator...
