Compositing clouds into the sky

I have this image that was shot on a cloudless day and would like to add some clouds so that the sky is not plain blue and boring.

Any ideas how to do this ?

I have struggled with blending modes and blending options but couldn't add the clouds so that they blend in realistically. I know that the clouds are back lit and not suitable for this scene but was wondering if there are any other ways this might be done.

Have you tried the blend if options? Windmill on this layer, clouds on underlying layer. Split the little black icon and slide to the right.

Hey Ray, that looks good for a quick fix. I tried the blend if options but the clouds were on top layer. I'll try putting the windmill on top and see if I get your result.

Hmmm...... I must be doing something wrong. What blend mode is the windmill layer ? Normal ? What blend if slider are you splitting and moving to the right ? Of Gray or one of the RGB channels ?

Windmill top layer, clouds 2nd layer, both normal blend modes.Blend if- Use the gray setting. Underlying layers-the dark icon on the left and the light icon on the right. Press the alt that will split the icon, slide the light half to the left while holding down the alt, press alt and slide the dark half to the right until you get something that you like. Mask any overlap the you might have (ocean,windmill,etc). Hope this helps.

It was more difficult than I anticipated but in the end I managed to add the clouds using your advice and here's the result.
