Peel Off White replacement

I was a big fan of Bergdesign's Peel Off White plugin, but I've upgraded since the last time I used it. Does anyone know of a way to duplicate this effect in CS6? It basically made all white pixels transparent and any pixels with a percentage of white semi-transparent.

Thanks for any help.

Eric

Layer styles?

Double click background image to unlock it. Double click again to bring up layer styles menu. The two gradient bars at the bottom, the one that says 'This Layer' alt click the white tab to split it and drag to middle or further towards the black.

Not sure if it's the same effect as what you're looking for.

Thanks for the response.

Using the sliders clips the pixels and causes hard edges. The Peel Off White plugin made everything smooth. I

Re: Peel Off White replacement

Only other thing I could suggest is get familiar with alpha channels as that is what the plugin most likely used. sorry I couldn't be of anymore help. I'm not overly familiar with alphas.

Regards

Re: Peel Off White replacement

If you are using a windows machine you can separate the sliders by holding down the alt key I believe its cmd for mac... that will provide a smoother transition at the edges.

Re: Peel Off White replacement

Hi Byrdman,

I've been a long time user of "Peel off White" and was disappointed to see PixelBender discontinued in CS6, and therefore Peel off White too.

I know there are lots of helpful suggestions above, but none of them will do the same as the plug-in.

I spent a morning awhile back trying to come with a workaround, and came close
(find midtone, use levels to bring it to 0/0/0, desat, lum mask, invert, jump to new layer), but not exact. I also experimented with calculations etc.

Anyways, after seeing your post, I emailed the developer and asked him for a non-pixelbender version, or the recipe.

I'll post here if I get a response.

Re: Peel Off White replacement

did you try : select all - then go to magic wand (unselect contiguous) and alt-click in the picture ? It usually select the white pixels. May need to adjust sample size and tolerance to suit need.

Re: Peel Off White replacement

I built a Filter Forge 3.0 version of Peel Off White which seems to work well with CS6 on OSX so far. Be sure to use it on a non-background layer. It works as a smart object too, so you can double click and edit the non-filtered image too - this works great for my workflow.

If you have Filter Forge, you can get my filter here http://www.filterforge.com/filters/s...white+2013&h=r

Attached is the RGB math / filter logic in node form if anyone cares

Hope others find it useful!

Re: Peel Off White replacement

I know this post is old, but I did find some actions that work pretty darn well, if anyone is interested.
