Most shadows are quite simple when you look at them....
Perhaps I am trying to be too much of a perfectionist. I will give it a go and see how I get on! Thanks

Re: Help with creating shadow

Usually, i'm transform shadow with free transform (ctrl+t) and after that i'm using warp transformation for docking end of foot and begin of shadow))

Re: Help with creating shadow

As mentioned above, make a dupe of the people, fill it with black, flip it, skew and rotate to angle of light, then use puppet warp to move feet into position. Use lens blur or some other blur method to blur the shadow further from the couple, and add layer mask to also fade the intensity.

Re: Help with creating shadow

Flowbox, I've done that too, but using Photoshop's 3D features. In the attached image, I made a postcard layer of the illustration of the girl and put it in with the balls, which were actual 3D objects.

Re: Help with creating shadow

Hi Ckajca,
In my honest opinion the skewed silo never works.....shadows just don't mirror the subject. Light just doesn't work that way. I do a ton of composites in my day to day and the best way to address this is thinking about it logically and finding reference in other images that are similar. First thing is that you need to think about the light source.....is it a hard light source, what is the distantance from the subjects, what is the angle......are there more than one light sources? If there is you need to make sure there is shadowing for both.

Setting up a folder for your shadowing is super easy.....one desat adjustment layer, followed buy a curve for color correction in a folder with a mask...then just paint it in......it is not as fast as a skewed silo but better.....most things in retouching are pretty subjective to the viewer but lighting and shadowing are very technical and scientific.

I hope this helped and you can see some of my work at glossstudio.com

Cheers and good luck,
JD

You could try an Andromeda Shadow filter

Re: Help with creating shadow

Chillin, just out of curiosity, how would that plugin do making the shadow come forward and to the right, as if backlit from camera left? (The OP's original specs.)

Re: Help with creating shadow

It's only a sample. You can rotate, set the light source angle, add more light sources and more.
