Photo extraction

Here's a snapshot I took of my son before one of his theatre performances. He did not have a speaking role in the play but I decided to "put" him into a starring role...

What was/were your tool/tools of choice to do the extract?

In Photoshop, I duplicated the original layer, used the extract tool, then the history brush to fill in what that missed. I lassoed a picture of t he moon from a recent picture, converted the original wall to a brick street, changed the color of the wall, added digital clouds, high lighting from the moon, etc.
