Hi indiancreekmom and welcome I checked your other post as well and cannot find where the picture has been uploaded. If you posted it again I am sure you will find there are many around here that will be happy to help you.

I've never attempted to glamourize anything before, so this is an atypical attempt in PS for me. Please excuse!

I honestly can't reiterate what steps I took to get here. I worked at it thoughtlessly and tried some different ( for me ) approaches.

Anyway.....

What a gorgeous little girl!!!

Hello Hun

Being in England i find it hard to understand why a little girl goes into pageants, sorry i just do, but i did this picture anyhow.

She is a beautiful looking little girl and her natural beauty i think doesn't need cosmetics.

I took the vibrant pink from the melon piece on her dress and added this for the lips and cheeks, and the vibrant green for her eyeshadow, and then made her eyelashes longer using a brush i got from trimoons cd.

I added the original next to the one i did.

indiancreekmom, she is indeed a beautiful little girl. Before I try to retouch this please explain what kind of results you are looking for.

Hmmmmm,

This one appears to have been worked on already. I did some work, but ended up with a 1.5 MB file. Saving for web reduced it to 325 K, but it was highly posterized, so I did not upload.

What did people do to address the compression issues??

Sean

Thanks for posting this photo for us to practice (and learn) on. I have never tried anything like this before so it has been a totaly cool learning experience.

One of the first things I would suggest is to go read the great tutorial on layer masks posted by vikki, find it here.

Here's what I did:
  • I googled for childrens pageant pictures
  • Duplicated the BG layer and applied gaussian blur filter, turned this layer into a layer mask, filled the mask with black and painted with a white brush at low opacity to smooth the skin.
  • I filled four seperate blank layers with the colors I wanted to add as the young lady's makeup and turned them all into layer masks. (all these colors were drawn from the photo such as her dress, the watermelon, her hair.
  • I painted the colors in using white on the layer masks with very low brush opacity and flow.
  • Adjusted the colors with blending modes and layer opacity.

Mine is probably not great and I know it's not perfect but If you have other photos to compare with this method could help you. Hopefully someone else will come on with a better method...then we can both learn.

Alan

Realaqu

I find your attempt rather interesting. The eyes, to me, do look doll like. And is it me, or did you remove the space from between her teeth? Nice job!

That's one beautiful little girl, Sure to break a few hearts when she gets older, I had a little go but got to admit not very good, only thing I am pleased with is the eyes.

Hi indiancreekmom,

Welcome to RP!

.... I agree with Legacy~ about this .... and, beside trying to help someone out, I've never really done this ... so, probably, it's not enough ...

I worked only on your daughter's beautiful little face and eyes ....

If it goes in the direction you are aiming to, let me know and I'll post a detailed description on how I got there ....

One small thing .... increasing the size of her pupil minimizes the 'wide-eyed' look ....

Great job Flora! Were the eyelashes hand painted or do you use an eyelash brush? How do you make it look so realistic?

Cheers
Dave
