Photo Restoration - - restoring bad scanning

I have to restore some really bad scanned photos where moire pattern is hardly visible
I have tried with the smudge tool, I don't know what to do.
Some ideas?

Heres another effort - Ran though neat image and then FFT.

Hi Silvia,

I did the same as Roy (great job!!

).... but in the opposite order:

Run FFT ... FFT is a filter that can be very useful in minimizing/removing repetitive patterns from Images ... the Filter can be donwloaded free here, and here you can find Roland's excellent Tutorial on how to use it ...

I run Neat Image (a software for minimizing noise) after FFT. Neat Image can be downloaded free here ..

After Neat Image I used the Curves to 'lift' the shadows a bit ...

Flora, it's interesting that you did it the other way around. This was the obvious approach that I took first but I found that no matter how I adjusted neat image (free version) after runing FFT, the image came out VERY soft to the point of being blurred. As I said on another post, I'm very new to this so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Roy,

I used very, very soft settings and actually run Neat Image on a Shadow Mask only ... my version is still much 'grainier' than yours ....
