| | frosti,
welcome to RP!
as for your question, if you're using paint shop pro then i'd try the whiten/darken brush first. if that wasnt satisfactory, then i'd try masking the shaded area with a feathered mask and use a contrast/lighten filter on it.
if you're using photosphop i'm not sure what the exact equivalents are there, but i know they exist in the later versions.

| | | Hi Rosti. Welcome to RetouchPro.
When I first looked at this I thought it would be easy but for some reason I found it more difficult than I thought.
I had to make one mask for the base/tower and another for the shadow on the bird.
I found that the shadows were coming out blue so I desaturated them before a curves layer to match the shadow to the highlights.
And it’s still not perfect.
I’ll be interested to see how others approach this one.

| | | well ken, like you, i thought this would be easier. i also got the same blue tint as i lightened. after trying several different things, i finally just lightened things up a bit with a mask and some curves and then resorted to clone. the lightening process was taking away all the detail and texture, so i just started cloning. i only did the right wing, but i got it passable.

| | | I did all the work on a selection of the eagle.
I first loosely selected the shadowy subesections and put them on a screen mode layer. I did that more than once.
I then touched up with 10% white and 10% black brushes on a 50% grey soft light layer.
To correct the shadows' bluish cast, I used the color replacement brush on a color mode layer.

| | | Here is mine - using Photoshop ...
-Selected luminosity with control-alt-~
-Control-Shift-I to rteverse selection
-Control-J to copy shadows to it's own layer, changed to screen mode
-Control-J to duplicate screened layer till the shadow area was light enough
-New blank layer
-Control-Alt-Shift-E to merge visble into new layer, masked
-deleted screened layers
-Added new blank layer, set to Color mode
-sampled and painted color of good bird on shadow area to match color

| | | LOL I was thinking the same thing. But I like the "eagle" that way. I do think it doesn't blend too well with the rest of the picture. If it had a different background the shadow would really work I think. With the shadow off of the eagle it reminds me of a sculpture in a museum in front of a backdrop. Plus, if removing the shadow from the eagle and not the rest of it makes it lose some realism. Guess it depends on what it's being used for. |

| | it also depends on what the customer is asking for (though i tend to agree; i like the shadow also).

| | | thanx for your help guys! its always intresting to see how others deal with such issues,
i'll try my best again with your advises, but its still a shame that such a simple thing like how to remove shadow is still rather complicated to acomplish. |
