Brush and clone question

I have PS 6.0 and have a question about a few things. First of all when it comes to the brushes(paintbrush this time) sometimes instead of the circle it will show a cross hair symbol, which it makes it hard to use if you want to be precise. So my qustion is how do you get it to go back to the circle option.

Also when I am cloning do you know how you can click on one area and press shift and then click another area and it clones in a straight line? Well for some reason it stopped doing that. I was wondering how to also reset that.

Thanks!

The cross hair usually comes up if you have caps lock on (I am on a Mac)

I'm not sure about PS6 but in PScs goto the Photoshop/Preferences/Display & Cursors. You can then change between Standard, Precise and Brush size.

I have found on rare occasions that after changing from Consise to Brush size I have had to reboot the computer before the change takes effect.

For cloning in a straight line, hold down the shif key. The shift key is a constraining key which means it will constrain most tools to a horizontal or vertical constraint.

In my experience the crosshair shows when the brush is too large or too small to display

Funny thing is that the Cross-hair (CAPSLOCK) option is there exactly to be precise. It is very useful when you are repairing an edge and you need to line up with the exact centre of the source.
