Working on this picture. I am able to clean up spots and do a clone job, but can someone suggest how to clear it up and get more detail in it and a clearer sky please? Thanks neb

Neb:

Not sure if you have Neat Image, but it does a great job of clearing noise from images. Looks like you need to get rid of a lot of noise in the image to clean the sky.

Also, try using the Unsharp Mask filter to sharpen the image.

There is a great tutorial on a sharpening technique that I have used here:
http://www.russellbrown.com/tips_tech.html
Go to "Adobe Photoshop 7.0 tips" and see the section that says " Advanced Sharpening Techniques"
Here is a direct link to the QuickTime movie:

All the best!

Just tried to pick up on Nat's suggestions. Also, did a bit of burning and ran a gradient on the bottom to darken.

Cheers

Dave

I adjusted the curves first and removed as much noise that way as I could and then ran the default settings on Neat Image but no sharpening. I kept some noise to remove the satiny look I was getting with the sharpening on. Then I rebrightened the photo using the levels. I didn't remove the little white specks here and there which could be done with either a small healing brush or the poloroid plug in.

Here is my result. I do not post my tries ofter as I know I have so much to learn. I do not really remember what I did, other than one run through Neat Image , because two lost so much detail. Then some work with levels and channels I believe. I am ok with it, but would like to have the bottom of their coats blacker. I tried the gradient mask but for got all Gary said to do for sure and it did not work right for me!! I cloned a lot too!! Please feel free to critique but step gently please !! Neb

Neb, I'm sure I can speak for Twin when I say rudeness never entered our minds. Your result is coming along nicely. Personally, I still think some dodging on the face in the middle and some burning on the trees and top faces will strengthen your image.

Cheers

Dave
