Didn't want to blur and lose skin texture, as a result this may not be as pan as you might wish, you could of course blur slightly if that's the look you want.

First decreased contrast. Duplicated layer, desaturated, inverted, set to soft light blend, reduce opacity to 20%.

New layer, color blend, sample from light skin area and painted over darker zones.

New layer soft light filled with 50% grey, darken light areas with soft dark brush set at 3% opacity. Blurred with Gaussian Blur at 7 pix radius.

You people should be applauded: (clap clap - whistle)
I fell so inept now. The results are so much better than I could have achieved, so thank you all.

Now if I can just figure out how to do this myself. Although I've used ps for quite some time, I have never explored the extended capabilities of this program. Some of the directions are greek to me

Thanks for the warm welcomes too!

Hi Greg

Welcome to RetouchPro

Rô’s De-grunge worked just fine.
It may be my monitor but there seemed to be a lot of orange in her skin. I tried to colour correct it.

this is sort of a combination of Ro's technique and a bit of flora's. i wasnt completely happy with ro's on this one. it worked, but i just couldnt find the right settings, it would seem. so, i followed it up with a blank raster layer and some airbrushing and push with a 'use all layers'. i then lightened the woman's face a bit.
