Copy lab-channels

A quickie today:

How do I copy a and b channel (lab) to a layer? I mean both combined?

Copy your image to a new layer.

Create another layer below it. Fill this with 50% gray.

In your newly copied image layer, double click to the right of the layer name in the Layer Palette to bring up the Layer Style Window.

In the Advanced Blending section, just below the Fill Opacity slider, you will see three check boxes for each of the channels. Uncheck the L channel.

Merge with the 50% Gray layer.

Edit > Fill
- Use: Black, White, or 50% Grey
- Mode: Saturation

or...

Copy
Advanced Blending > turn of L channel
(depending)

or...

Copy
Go to L channel in Channels palette
fill with 50% grey
