Photo cuts off when printing 8X10

I had scanned a photo at 800 resolution and did some minor restoration. I had tried a practice run of printing a 5x7 on regular paper to see what it would like. The photo looks okay, but when I tried to print an 8x10 photo, part of the feet and head were cut off. Before running a test print, I had tried to cropped the photo by putting 8x10 in the option line, but the whole photo was not crop either. Can someone please explain to me what I had done wrong and how to prevent this from happening in the near future.
