| | | Old Document Restoration I have been working on another restoration. Below you will see the original and the restoration. I can't make out the secretary's name.
When I inverted it, it looked like H. K. Wyman...... but don't get me to lying!
If anyone knows pass it on!
Thanks

| | | Good job Candy!!!
Your eyes are a lot better than mine... I cannot make out anything.
I would bet the signature was long faded before the water damage.
Maybe a search on the net would turn up a name are two.

| | Hi Candy.
Great job.
I love challenges like this, but unfortunately the compression to post it has destroyed all the info in the signature.
Please post the signature area only with no compression and then we can have a go at it

| | | I couldn't see it in the artwork, but I found this 'googling'
The Frank L. Wyman Memorial Trophy was presented to the NRA in 1982 by Mrs. Wyman in memorial of her husband. Frank Wyman, a well known pistol competitor, was Secretary of the National Rifle Association for many years and also served at Director of the Program Division until his retirement in 1966. |

| | | Hi Nancy,
I don't see much either, if you tweak levels a bit after inverting you can just about make out that there is a signature, but I certainly can't read it.
Candy obviously has better eyesight than us. |

| | | F L Wyman By tracing the signature I can make out what you see on in the attachment.
F L Wyman, after reading what Bill found, makes sense.
Thank you Bill, I wasn't about to find that much and I even joined "Gunforums.com" and there was one response but he pointed me to the NRA. I wrote the NRA yesterday and I've yet to have a response to my inquires.
I'll go with your information and if I dont' get a response back from the NRA or the owner, whose email addy is on the photo, I'll call it good and send it in to Operation Photo Rescue as complete.
Thank you again!!

| | Hi Candy.
Thanks for posting the signature only picture.
Signatures on certificates are something I never take too much notice of and it is quite likely that the owner of this certificate cannot remember the name in the signature.
My attachment is the best I can get from this. There is not much info there. But try as I might I cannot get Wyman out of it. In fact there appears to be two words not initials. But I still can’t read it.
I think you have done a great job on the rest of the restoration so this name is no biggie.

| | | On The Contrary The owner of the certificate believes it was Frank Daniel.
Dear Ms. Roy:
To the best of my knowledge the name on the certificate should be that of
Frank Daniel who was Secretary of the NRA at that time.
If that is what he wants then it is the clients with I shall do. When doing a document I try to be as authentic as I can.
Thank you for working on it for me. |

| | | Hi Candy
I have also been working opr. I have completed somewhere around 30 so far and many times I wished I could ask a few questions of the photo owner.
May I ask how you went about contacting the owner? I wonder if that would be something OPR frowns on.

| | Thank You All! After speaking with Mr. Klatt he said that he remembered Frank C. Daniel. I was able to verify this. Through bulletins to its members, the NRA has often voiced approval and support of State and local ordinances designed to keep firearms out of the hands of undesirables. A bulletin of Feb. 20, 1964 notified Virginia members of the introduction in the Virginia House of Delegates of a bill requiring a 72-hour waiting period for purchase of a handgun. In the bulletin, which outlined the provisions of the bill, NRA Secretary Frank C. Daniel commented as follows:

| | The multi-faceted human nature!!! ... we start out with a picture to restore ... to get there, we turn into researchers ... customs, history, fashion, colours, paper and printing issues of different epoques to list a few ....
Well ... a great and welcome side-effect of photo retouching/restoring
Great job Candy!!!
