Thanks again all, by the way that building in the distance is the church my brother got married in about 12 years ago, and the building in the foreground is still standing proud, about 5 miles from me.
This is as far as I'm going with the touch up, but I'm having a go with colouring (first time) not as good as Butch tho'.

thanks for posting.

i think you lost a bit of contrast in the first one.... in the middle buildings. or, at least the contrast shld be raised a bit. seems kind of subdued and you wanted pop.

second one looks good.

and the third, well done on the colorizing! you may have lost a tiny bit of detail in the top windows and not quite sure why you didnt do the bottom windows but otherwise, very nice.

Butch, can you tell me how you get such vibrant colours in your pic? Whenever I colourize a photo useing a blank layer set on "color" mode all I get are muted tones, and I never get the actual colour I have picked (must be to do with the blend mode) For example I cannot seem to pick up a brown, it turns almost pink! I don't want to get the colours as bright as yours, somewhere between yours and the one I posted would be spot on.

Oh and thanks craig,. The reason I did the botom of the town hall lighter than the top is because I know the building, and that's the way it is, it's polished limestone and maybe the top was not quite as highly polished as the bottom because it was cheeper to produce and people couldn't touch it so high up.

Hi there

Yes I do love neon colors with lots of contrast..

I usually use gradient maps with three colors... highlight mid tone and a shadow. I mostly set them to color blendmode but often use softlight and others.

I sample colors from other pictures at times... for instance your building color I might sample from a like picture off the net.

Even after applying the gradient you can edit the map colors... drag the sliders... until you are satisfied.

I also use fill layers set to color... I have found that colors often trick the eye and look different according to adjacent colors... otherwise that pretty brown may look to red in a different setting. Just remember you can always group a hue/saturation adjustment layer to your fill or blank layer set too color and adjust as needed.

Back again,
I've been playing with the colourizing on these, and don't think it's too bad, what do you reckon? All done in Painter with a little hue adjustment in PS. I think this will do, being as my cousin didn't know anything about me colouring them!
