Putting it to gether again

I Have been given a family heirloom picture that has been extensively damaged
and asked if I could put it back together.
At first I thought I would do it physically - you know glue and stuff with a bit of retouch with water colour.
I may still do that
But I thought I would have a go with Electrontrickery so to speak
So here is my first attempt in PSP X

Way to go. However I think you can make it better by dealing with these irregularities.

Re: Putting it to gether again

hi jaxk, and welcome to RP.

doesnt look too difficult. select the torn piece and move it so it aligns as best you can and then clone in the missing pieces.

need any help, let us know. looking forward to seeing the finished piece.

Jaxk,

Katrin Eismann has a very nice tutorial in her book, Photoshop Restoration and Retouching, first edition. It deals with the exact problem you have in this torn photo.

Gave this one a try. Cloning, healing, painting.

Duplicated picture.

Extracted torn segment from duplicate using EXtract tool.

Re-aligned using Move tool.

Cloned to hide joins.

All up about a 5 min job. (I've made no attempt to deal with the staining and other problems on this picture).

You should get better results with a larger pic.

Re: Putting it to gether again

Thank you all for those hints and samples, one aspect of the image that philbach arrowed is the disjointed frame on the right - which is in the original
to amend or not is the question- in conservation one does not 'improve' strictly speaking, but it does look messy to I did the attached for the folk to select from.
