I would love tips for future colorizations, certainly. I do feel pretty proud of myself, I don't think it's too bad for a first try. I was going to try and make the background various colors BUT I was running out of time, as I plan on giving this to her tomorrow as an early Xmas present at our Thanksgiving dinner..
I found the colors a bit flat. Otherwise you did a good job.
You might want to duplicate the finished layer, set that copy to Overlay blend mode and then do a HSL adjustment to pump up the saturation (I went to about +47 on mine)
I agree with Swampy. The colors do look a bit flat, but otherwise a good job. In the future, you may want to play with levels and curves a little before calling it a finished job.
