Help with sun glare on faces.

I've been trying to fix this image, with no luck. I've followed some of the tutorials, without any luck. I'm not a photoshop guru, I just like taking pictures... Unfortunately, we want to use this one for a xmas card, and I can't get the glare from the sun off the faces. Can anyone help?

It seems the sun touched areas are blown out with no data to save.

Nice picture even blown-out.
Used the eyedropper to get the color off the other side of their head.
Then painted it on a layer above the background and set the layer opacity super low.

Not very hi-tech...

All the areas I have highlighted in pale purple are block white, there is no salvagable image detail in there unfortunately. Recontructing those areas (such as cloning from other parts of the image) is probably your only option with fixing the glare...or you could 'artify' the image, there are some nice effects you can play with in Photoshop's filter menu.

With enough time, and above all, patience, the faces can be rescued. Almost...

It involves "painting" the blown areas with skin from the same person. Essentially what the others have talked about.
I apologize that I didn't have the time to do both faces.

The whites of the faces are 255 x 3. I switched to lab mode and lowered the luminosity and painted the skin color in. Considerably over done with the lady on the right, but essentially the data needs to place in those blown out areas with cloning or painting.
