Smile Civil War era photo in a photo

Since I was asked for a large image in my last post, here is another. Gallery material? Actual size about 5 X 7.

Re: Civil War era photo in a photo

Hi, DC & Craig. Thanks for the replies.

I wasn't looking for anything in particular. Recently joined RetouchPRO after being in this business for a while. Thought I would introduce myself by way of some examples.

I did inquire as to posting to one or more items to the gallery.

Joe

Re: Civil War era photo in a photo

you're welcome, joe.

and that's a much better size to the image.

re the challenges, to be honest, i've forgotten how to submit those. memory (and that's often not that good) tells me that you request this of doug nelson. that's for the official challenge threads.

also, you can always post these in your gallery space here on RetouchPRO. on restorations it's a good practice to combine the before and after, side by side, in one image.

and if you're interested in comments on the work, i like that you re-made the border all the way around. it needs a touch more contrast. there is detail there that could be brought out a touch more. i've posted an image done in just a few minutes to illustrate this. this was a brightness/contrast adjustment layer followed by a hue/sat adjustment layer and then a 'clarify' filter (not sure what the photoshop equivalent is called).

almost always in restorations, the first job is to 'find' the image. you want to bring out the detail as much as possible. this makes cleaning things up easier. contrasting often will do this. the clarify filter is a contrasting type filter and can do wonders at times.

once you've 'found' the image, that will tell you what's left to be done.

and if you're not interested in comments.... oops!
