Tintype Horror!

OK folks, get ready here's a photo from (you know where.)

Thought I would post it to see what this group can do to help it. I do some retouching, but this one is way beyond me and my retouching software.

It was given to me by a cousin and she knows it is some of our ancestors, but does not have I.D.'s on them.

So if anyone cares to have a go, here is truly a photo restoration nightmare. Probably something only a professional restorer could love.

If you can imagine it, the original was worse than this before I scanned it and did a little contrast and brightness tweaking.

Steve, with "weak" images, often what makes or breaks the retouch is the 1st direction / adjustment (out of many possible) that you make after a raw scan. You may have some better suggestions / results if you post the unadjusted scan.

thanks for posting this. however, this belongs more in the restoration forum, so i'm moving it there.

also, this seems very low resolution and quite pixelated as a result. i'd love to see a higher resolution and without the any adjustments to it; just the raw scan.

it's actually quite do-able as far as what i can see.

You don't want to even see the unadjusted scan.

If I had not done some tweaking of the original, after making it fit the 100k limit, there would not have been a lot to see. Also, this is not a "must have" on my part. If someone feels like fooling with it, fine. If not, no big problem.
I just thought I would post it and those out there that mainly do retouching and restoration might like the challenge.

Don't see anything called just "Restoration." Or did I miss something?

well, a tin type is a photo.

but there's no reason we cant do other restorations, like documents or whatever.
