Re: I need help with my photo.....

Might help if you posted your picture so we can see the extent of the damage and therefore give you better advice on how to deal with it.

Flora has written some instructions on posting Images to the forums Here

This one doesn't look to difficult. You should be able to clean it up with the clone tool, and the heal tool. The hardest part will be the face, but with the full size image you should be able to do a better job than I did here. The rest are pretty simple surfaces.

Re: please help me 3rd time is the charm

Dave has pretty much explained what to do. I noticed a focus problem and ran the picture through a thrid party plugin called Focus Magic and then completed my retouching efforts. Focus Magic did seem to improve the picture.

Re: please help me 3rd time is the charm

cute pic, but i dont know... we're not supposed to allow nudes. ok, just kidding. the guys have the right of this one. clone, some focusing. i'd try a usm. and then maybe a little color correction. the reds are a bit strong, probably due to low light when taken.

Re: I need help with my photo.....

Made a very quick attempt to repair the tears.

I haven't tried to deal with any of the other issues with this picture.

All I've done is clone out the cracks. Obviously with more time all the other "defects" in the picture could be addressed.

Re: I need help with my photo.....

Cloned and attacked some of the "other issues".

I was testing the new "Clone Source" window in PS3.
Not too impressed - seemed to get in the way more than helping.

Re: please help me 3rd time is the charm

I posted to this thread yesterday, but for some reason my picture is not present. Strange because it was when I logged out last night.

Sorry if you thought I'd ignored you Wintergoddess.

Here's the picture I posted (just a quick clone job)

My apologies, for some reason I can't upload the picture at the moment.

EDIT: It appears you double posted Wintergoddess and I replied in the other post.

Please don't double post, as it causes just this kind of problem.

I've moved the posts from the other thread into this one.

No worries, just don't do it again or I'm afraid we'll have to introduce you to the RetouchPro ducking stool.

Re: please help me 3rd time is the charm

I'm still struggling at restoration and trying to emulate all of the talented people here at RP; I think I've improved since I first found RP but there's a long road ahead of me . Wanted to give this one a try, such a happy face.

Basically, I started out by duplicating the main layer (as always), copied and pasted a set of 3 tiles, transformed by perspective, adjusted the saturation on them and then duplicated that layer 2 more times for the other damaged tiles on the right and adjusted for perspective and color. For the tears/heavy scratches, mainly, I used the clone tool, a little bit of patching, and maybe one or two "copy & paste" sections of the hair.

Found some bubbles on a disc of stock photos that I had and copied, pasted, sized, did a mask for revealing and lowered the opacity to about 90%.

Merged all the layers and then did a minor hue and saturation adjustment, don't remember what settings, I just stopped adjusting when I was somewhat happy with the results; wasn't quite sure what I wanted.

Downsized the file for submitting here.

Re: please help me 3rd time is the charm

Wintergoddess:

What a great photo.

To repair a photo like this, as Dave said you need to use the clone tool and heal tool. I have found that by working on your photo at 200-300% and cloning from areas on both sides of the damage the cloning is harder to detect. After working at 200-300% go back to 100% and make any changes that may show up at that size.

I reduced the yellow in the photo a bit with a color balance (moving yellow toward blue), and did selective sharpening on the photo (ex. eyes, mouth, hair).

Hi AJ, nice to see you round the forums again, it's been a while. Nice work as always.

Susie, nice idea adding the extra bubbles, lovely picture.
