Smile Getting the Cracks Out!

I have checked all my books and have yet to find a better solution than what I'm doing. Perhaps I've missed something. And before I go into what I've done I'd like to hear your thoughts. 100K limits what you may see but here it tis.

Hugs,
Candice

Re: Getting the Cracks Out!

Hi-

Do you have the book by CTEIN (Pronounced: kuh tine'), Digital Restoration From Start to Finish, Focal Press, ISBN: 0-240-80814-2? $54.99 - has practice images on line. $39.95. 466 pages.

www.focalpress.com

Also, you can Google CTEIN and visit his web site. He lives in Northern California.

He may have some solutions to this problem.

Re: Getting the Cracks Out!

Hi There,

I have his book and he jumps around so much that though his information is good, when I try to put it together I can't make sense of it. Perhaps there is something in the levels/channel etc self training that I have missed, but I'll have to wing it, since he's information is not understandable.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Re: Getting the Cracks Out!

i just played around made new curtain, made a new carpet, painted on a new layer a skin color, painted new layer very light grey and set blending mode to saturation. not very good by a long shot but its a start. One thing i did try and it seemed to work pretty good was to add a slight gaussian blur to get rid of the cracks. might work better on a higher res photo. The second image has the gaussian blur i believe it was around .8

Re: Getting the Cracks Out!

I made them using new layer, gradient tool set to difference and linear then drew small straight lines from left to right and then from right to left in the black areas of the gradient. then added some color and lowered opacity to taste. for the rug i used a new layer filled with black added around 100 for noise then guassian blur between 1 and 2 (just to get the pile of the carpet then hue saturation layer set to colorize adjusted to a green color and darkened.
it was a quick job and the faces didnt come out to visible, but thank you for your words of encouragement.
