Grafting: the action of taking part of an image and cutting and pasting it to another part of the same or another image.

Many thanks for your reply I've googled about grafting i am afraid haven't had much luck would you mind showing me how it's done or direct me to a tutorial about grafting as mentioned i am new to photoshop which i found very powerful tools so many possibilities i've yet to try a few at least lol.

sergio,

i'm using paint shop pro xi. but, it shld be fairly similar in photoshop, if you're using that. simply outline the part of an image you want to 'cut out' or copy. the tool for this in Paint Shop Pro is the 'selection' tool. it has several modes in psp. you can 'select' a part of an image with a square or do a 'point to point' or a 'freehand'. the instructions for using this shld be in your graphic editor's manual.

so, let's say you wanted to select a single leaf off of a tree. you would use one of the methods i mentioned, like the point to point mode. you would essentially trace the leaf. when done, you would copy it, control-c in Paint Shop Pro. this puts that selection into what is called the 'clipboard'. the clipboard is simply a piece of memory allocated for saving bits and pieces temporarily. you can then call that piece of memory, your selection, back and 'paste' it anywhere you want, as a new image, onto your current image or onto another image, anywhere within that image.

so, essentially, that is 'grafting'. you are grafting one part of one thing into or onto another location. it's really just a select, copy, paste.

and again, for more specifics, check out your manual of whatever graphic package you are using. my explanation may not be exact for your editor.

The tool in Photoshop for grafting Available in versions 7 and up
is Patch tool:
This tool is what you would want to use if your image has torn clothes, or stains, or holes in walls, or blemishes etc. This is very similar to the Healing Brush tool except with the patch tool you can define a selection where you want the effects applied.
