Correcting sky banding, smudge, & haze

An old (1981) Monument Valley, AZ, 645 color negative, scanned on my flatbed scanner @ 16-bit. My system is a Mac G5, running OS 10.3.9. I'm using Photoshop CS.

Don't know if the problems are visible in the Web version, but in the upper left sky, toward the middle & down about half-way, subtle bands of alternating light & dark blue. On the right of the sky, a dark smudge that runs down toward the ground. Finally, some haze issues. There are other issues, but I can handle those.

Would appreciate any/all advice anyone can give me, and believe me, I'm glad I found RetouchPRO!

Man, you fast! Tried posting the image. It don't seem to take. Only 108 KB, but RetouchPRO said it did. Don't know what's going on. Sitting here with an image that needs to be seen.

Images have to be less than 100KB, you'll probably have to rename it as well otherwise it will tell you that the image is already there - well, that's what it did to me once

Re: Correcting sky banding, smudge, & haze

Alison,

Thanks for your help. When I do Get Info on the file, it shows 36 KB. RPRO rejects it, saying it has 103.x KB. Give me a little time to work on this & try figuring out for myself. It's important you see the image, but don't waste your time on this. It's pretty basic & I should know this stuff. I'll figure it out & get back to you.

The dark area at RHS looks like the neg wasn't quite sitting flat on the scan bed. Is that possible?
