Unhappy Tough ones.. any chance??

These are some pics my father recently gave me of his old project car to try to retouch I'm having trouble.. Think they are to far gone

Well these can be salvaged. For this correction I just did the first step. I used levels and I placed the white eyedropper on sampler two and the black eyedropper on sampler 1.

There are a number of Jpeg artifacts on this photo. So for starters I would rescan the photo and save it as a psd or tiff file.

Ok I rescanned them again an save them in tiff.I uploaded tiff files to imageshack an it saved png

This is what I could come up with I cant seem to get rid of the bleed on the sides. Can/how would that be done?

Fast touch with levels,hue/saturation,sharpen,fft filter and cloning stripes away.

Still need some hand coloration, and cloning/cleaning.

I used a lot of masking & selective level (curves) adjustments.
I'm not sure how far I could go & still make it believable.

Thanks guys all of you great jobs..I had alot of work with PS an Illustrator classes back in college in '98 but never did anything with it. Was focused more on Dreamweaver. But recentlly got back into working on PS trying to relearn an get back into it..
