First post - need help with stained weding-photo

Hi all.

This is my first post here, hopefully you can help me.

I need help with the attched photo, which has alot of issues. The thoughest part though to me, is to get rid of all the yellowish stain all over the photo.

The stains show up in all channels, but most noticably in the blue. I am using PS CS3.

At the end i plan to convert to black and white.

This is what I came up with, used channel mixer, color adjustment layer, a little bit of patching, cloning and healing.

Hi there

I always desaturate and check the stain... a lot of the time it will blend back into the background... that means it is the same or close to the same luminance. Then you can just use layers set to color and sample adjacent color and paint the stain out.

I also switched to lab and used surface blur on the a and b channels.

Then a little color correction and some healing and clone.

Butch, that is a beautiful restoration. I'd like to give this picture another go, using your technique, I really think your outcome is flawless.

I like your restoration a lot Butch... The only thing that bothers me is that his hair looks mussed up due to what looks like smudging or healing. It looks different from the first photograph anyways. I Use the same method. (desaturate if the background is light...) If you want to retain the color from the background without using much effort...

The easiest thing to do (without doing much else) is to make a new layer on the picture and paint over the spots with a matching color. on problematic areas that have lots of detail... you could also use the smudge tool, just make sure to set it to color so that the original isn't messed up or distorted. It comes to about the same effect as the picture Butch did. And it works better if you want to preserve its old features. Like the color and whatnot.

(by the way my end result was the one I made before posting) - anyhow I have been painting in color mode on the stains, amazing! Butch; the color correction u mention, was that with "color balance" or some other function?

I wanted to try this one again, started out with Butch's technique and somewhere I got sidetracked with channels (like a mad scientist) and ended up with this. I didn't address the spots on the background, was more interested in the people.

I thought you wanted Black and white.. then seemed to express interest in color so I did both..

Resized, Ran FFT action to remove the linen texture,
levels, lots of healing, patch, clone..
Levels, curves, resized, sharpened
