How to restore a partially faded colour photo

Hi,

I'd very much appreciate some advice on the best way to restore a photo (attached) that has more than one level of fading.

Part of the image was masked in the frame it was being displayed in.

I'm a bit of a newbie so go easy.
I have Paint Shop Pro v9.01 to use as a tool.

Re: How to restore a partially faded colour photo

here is an easy way.

first fix the fade with levels (do each channel separately)
then blend i "highpass" filter by duplicating the original layer then adding the "highpass" filter and change the blend mode to "soft light"
then instead of trying to fix the faded edge you could just crop the image

here is result

I am not sure but these tutorials MAY translate into Paint Shop Pro.. they will at least give you an idea on how to proceed and some Paint Shop Pro users here could probably offer alternate methods

After you post your less than 100K version, you could link to a site that is hosting a larger version.(like imagevenue.com or pixentral.com or photobucket.com)

Re: How to restore a partially faded colour photo

Color correction done with curves.
The high pass filter I applied to the green & blue channels only. Blend them in: green overlay 60%, blue 75% soft light selectively. All the channels I ran separately through Noisware with different settings.
