My dads picture need help

I need to restore a pic of my Dad. He died when I was three and it is the only color pic of him I have.
It has severe fingerprint stains in the yellow CMYK channel.
How do I fix this
Thanks,
Eddie Estes

Hi, Eddie! Welcome to RetouchPro! Explore and Enjoy!

It would help if you could post a sample. Here's a link to Flora's How To Post a Picture.

Re: My dads picture need help

Eddie,
Welcome to RP and I'm sure you will benefit from asking questions like the above.

I see one print off to the left, mostly yellow like you said. Properly adjusting for the color cast helps. After that, isolate just that spot by selecting it roughly with the lasso and copying to a new layer. Then apply a fresh adjustment layer to just that layer (set it to clipping) and lower the yellow. I did it with a curves adj. layer and it removed all of the coloring of it; I was then able to heal the remaining spots just fine.

Re: My dads picture need help

Here is my try. I went in and looked at the damaged channel in Photoshop 7. Replaced the blue channel with the green channel. Then adjusted the levels, color and brightness. then started cloning and patching. Then cropped the picture.

Tawnidilly,
That looks great.
I am a beginner. How did you you replace a channel?
I appreciate the help from you and everyone.

Re: My dads picture need help

I used the red, green, blue channel. Using photoshop 7 I Choose the channel that has the most useable information. Click on that channel, select all, edit copy. Then go into the most damaged channel and edit, paste into. you might get a color cast to the rgb layer. Go in and adjust the levels one at a time until you get a color you are happy with. Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Tawnidilly

Re: My dads picture need help

You could readjust the channels a bit & the rest could be corrected with levels, curves, stamp tool & a healing.
