| Hi Everyone, I'm new here and have been reading the boards for a while. There's a wealth of experience and skill here! I'm looking forward to learning more as I read. Right now, I have a restoration problem. A friend came to me with an WWII vintage B&W image needing restoration that is far beyond my skill set. I'm wondering if anyone is willing to take a swing at it. It's a Christmas gift so there's not much time. Below is a small jpeg od the image and here's a link to the hi-res... Please feel free to email me. https://rcpt.yousendit.com/636028448...1b698512b8e274 Thanks! | Re: Christmas Gift Needs Restoration! PSD for PS 11 (CS4). If you do not have zip opener, go to download.com and download any of the free zip readers. If its the PSD file, that you cant open, then I sugest the owner post the jpeg or TIFF somewhere elce. I'll post it later if Steve dosent get back in a timely mannor. Image size is 2100/1500. Its a bit small for a really good retouch but if you cannot rescan then it will do ok. -Keven |

Re: Christmas Gift Needs Restoration! lol yes, I have a zipper... What I use is psppro photo2 and when I try to open that 'unzipped' file I get a response of : The color model of this PSD file is not supported. Thats why I had asked to upload it to an area to where as I can retain access to a different format ie tiff, gif, blah blah

Re: Christmas Gift Needs Restoration! Thanks Keven! If you could repost the tif that would be really helpful! I'm away at a friend's house with no access to any version of photoshop Keven's right Kate. People zip files to make them smaller or zip a folder to send several files in one package. Any of the free expanders will work. Just pick the one that is right for your operating system. Thanks for your interest. Steve

Re: Christmas Gift Needs Restoration! Here is the TIFF. Just type in the three letters and wait for the free timer Here is the JPEG. Here is a smaller JPEG on flickr (not full sized) For your next ZIP... you may want to do a self extracting zip so anyone even if they dont have a reader can open it. Its kind of fool proof... for ones that know a little about clicking next.... -Keven Last edited by igot2pman; 12-20-2008 at 04:15 AM.

I have always used winzip with out effort or issue that's why I didn't understand why it didn't unzip it properly. I'll look into that stuffit thing. |

Re: Christmas Gift Needs Restoration! I guess I just didnt think about posting the PSD. Well here it is. If anyone is wandering, the TIFF and PSD are in 16Bit format so not all PS functions are avalible. You must convert to 8bit if you need the other functions or even to just save as a JPEG. -Keven

Re: Christmas Gift Needs Restoration! Hi Kate, Glad you were able to get it. We have had the image for about 2 weeks, gave it several tries but didn't feel we could do the image justice! When you're a photographer (as I am) it is assumed that we (photographers) can do it all. I knew this was beyond me and knew of this site and decided to reach out for assistance. There really is a wealth of knowledge on this site! Thank you again. Steve

Re: Christmas Gift Needs Restoration! Well the best way to post photos for others to view is to use a jpeg and post it directly by uploading the photo to the forum. That way links and things don't disappear. A jpeg uses much less file space than a psd file. For instructions you may want to view various tutorials on this web site.http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/ima...ads-posts.html You can use a file size of less than 200 k. An easy way to do this using photoshop is to use the save for web option in the file menu and then select optimize to file size of 195k.

Re: Christmas Gift Needs Restoration! Well to do the whole retouch would require hours instead of minutes. To do the face I needed to just draw portions of the nose etc.

Re: Christmas Gift Needs Restoration! Yeah Baldy, good idea they must be married or twins, or something since they look alike. Nan, good point. There is a lot of action in the lower left hand corner and it would take a long time to restore. Well its a fun picture to deal with.
