Nicely done, especially for your first restoration!

What I noticed is that you've lost some of the face detail that makes this girl so beautiful. Like the shadow under the chin.

I took a quick stab at it.

If you are interested in what changes I made and how I made them I can send you the PSD with the layers intact.

Re: comments & critique on my 1st Photo Restore pr

thanks, it took me a while. I worked on it here and there, when I had extra time at night.
Sure Juneberry, I would be glad to see the PSD. It looks great, how did you add the color? did you use the eyeballs from the before image?
Thanks again

midwestedit, welcome to RetouchPro. Have a look around and enjoy your stay. Looking forward to seeing some more of your work

I think you are off to a resounding start! A little practice cubed and you will get there in no time..

There are a few spots where the healing brush picked up some dark areas.. when that happens you can change to the clone tool and clean up the error or just undo and make a selection of the area you are wanting to repair, avoiding the dark areas, and use the healing brush again.
The neck chain on your version seems to have disappeared..
All in all I think you have done pretty good for a first time! Keep up the good work!!

Another small request, Please don't use external links as the only source for images, externally linked images should only be made available as a backup for attached images. Sometimes links to outside sites can get broken...External links change, some sites purge old accounts or have time limits for storage, which makes an otherwise useful thread here pretty useless. By attaching the image to the post it will be viewable forever.

The following links may help!

Attaching Files or Images to Threads or Posts
Size and quality for Attached Images!

After you post your less than 100K version here, you could also post a link to the site that is hosting a larger version Use one of your own or any of these other host options:
ImageVenue.com (3Meg max, free) or pixentral.com (2Meg max, free) or photobucket.com (1 Meg max free,... 5 Meg PRO)-- .Flickr.com (5Meg max free.. BUT they resize to 1024 long side if you don't pay)

I'm not a professional, I'm just a hobbyist and this is my take on this small picture.. She might be a bit bright so I included the layer pallet so you can see that any of the colors, face, hair, etc., can be readily changed, lightened or darkened

Re: comments & critique on my 1st Photo Restore pr

here is the PSD

http://uoregon.edu/~thuffman/Mystuff...ro/example.psd

I used the original for the edits because I wanted to keep the detail on the face as much as possible.

The colorization was as simple as using color balance layers and then masking them off with a careful hand. You'll see the color layers when you look at the .psd
