help with twins

I have been asked to "fix this up" , it is on matte photo paper , pretty badly scratched but what seems really strange is that when looking closely it appears to be a colour photo but only in parts , the girls skin have a slight skin tone and obviously the tops showing red and the lips but there is a hint of green only in their tops. Was this some sort of early colour photography technique?the pics i have uploaded are the original and the other merged is scanned the other way and blended in overlay.Larger scans are available at 600dpi if anyone wants to have a play with them .btw the owner has agreed to them being posted.

Paul

Re: help with twins

I see what you mean about the curious toning in the the tops-the red and green accenting the design. Also that bit in the lips and the overall muted shade. Perhaps a little hand colouring at some point...

I think an hour of cloning, some curves tweaking, local contrast USM (15/50/0), noise reductiion (Neat Image) and you're in business.

I ignored that bit of original colouring and gave it an overall burgundy tone.

Yes, it's an interesting photo and worth investing some time to get it right. Colourizing should give you some fun. Not too many fussy details...should make the job nice and simple.

Re: help with twins

My friend, I have been there more than once! Thankfully I didn't loose anything.
I suggest if you dont already have it to download:
NEAT IMAGE
It helps quite a bit with clean up and clarity.

Re: help with twins

Finally got round to working again , have been rather ill lately on top of computer woes so here is my go at the twins , used neat image and a bit of cloning plus replaced the background to give better contrast.

Many thanks learninlady , it was quite a nice pic to work with and the prints look good even on my cheapo lexmark all in one lol.I,ve seen some of your colourization works posted and they make mine look real amateur but with practice maybe i,ll get there.
