Black and white vs brown and white.

Hello.. Im new here and new to the restoration process. I have done this here and there on old photos and I seem to really enjoy doing it. Anyways.. I have a photo from 1933. Over the years it has become damaged and discolored. It seems that all older photos have become almost brown and white. I wasnt born then so Im not sure how the origional looked. Generally, were photos taken back then black and white or brown and white? I can seem to get more detail out of the brown and white. I didnt know which was the correct way to restore this photo. Thanks.

Re: Black and white vs brown and white.

Hi RGB, and welcome to RTP. I've always assumed that photos taken in the 30's and 40's were originally black and white. Many people prefer to replicate the browned effect of aging when they restore, however.

Re: Black and white vs brown and white.

Thanks.. I suppose that I can restore the photo as is and then make a second copy converted to black and white.
