Old Photo Restoration - Need Comments

Hello All
This is my first try in photo restoration. I usually like retouching. well, I sort of "retouched" this photo and took it one more step by removing people from it.
please let me know what you think

Terrific job.

There appears to be a little more detail in the man's face than is evident in the retouched version. Might want to consider either a slight dodge of the shadow area on his lower face...OR...desaturate it, add a Soft Light layer filled with 50% gray and paint on the Soft Light layer with a soft-edge white brush at ~70% opacity. Then redo the sepia.

Re: Old Photo Restoration - Need Comments

whereas you did a nice job of removing the background people, i have to ask the question, why? a restoration is just that, restoring, or bringing back what was there. so, why bring back what was there only to remove it?

it's actually not a sin to do so, but i prefer, in most cases, especially older photos, to bring back what was there. and, if i'm your client, you'd lose my business in a hurry doing this (unless, of course, i'd requested it ).

I love it! But...

You seem to have not only taken out the background people but also part of the horse carriage's bulwark and reins. Put them back and I won't penalize you for wiping out the people.

I do like the retouch. I love the original though. The only thing I would have done was the pock marks all over the image, just a "clean up." The people in the original give the image more character along with the sepia coloring. Overall a good job though.

I agree, that touch up is great, but the original has a real cool aesthetic considering the content. Great job getting rid of the people. If it were my pic, I would take out the people and keep the vintaged color
