Baby restoration, C&C please

Not an overly difficult one, the origional pic was about 50+ years old, it was cracked and had tape on it.

now that i look at it, i could have put a little more effort on the bottom where i cloned out the tape. live and learn.

other than that, how did i do? I dont care how Nit-picky, what did i miss and what should i work harder on?

... i wish i could hotlink images on here... im sure you can tell which is origional.

I think you did rather well. It is important to retain as much of the original tint and texture as possible, and you did that. Many folks over do it and try to make it look like a modern photograph. Most anything beyond what you have done is subjective and could be discussed with the owner.

thanks for the praise!

i managed to find myself in that "overdone" situation when i first started retouching. it took a while before i was able to realize when i was overdoing things.

looks pretty good. but, (dont ya just hate buts ), the first thing i noticed was the skin color. seemed wrong, too dark, especially the face. if you lightened the face to match the arms i think it would be better. the face looks a little 'dirty'.

Re: Baby restoration, C&C please

It saved a little washed out from the PS file that I did the adjustments to, but even so I think it has a nice feel without going in and selectively adjusting much. The only two elements I isolated were the eyes to lighten and saturate the irises a bit and the blanket to keep it saturated when I desaturated the rest of the photo, it was getting a bit saturated in the magenta range. Right now a simple curves adjustment would help it "pop" and give it more the color of a "new" photo.

I do agree with the earlier comments on doing too much to an old photo though, it is sometimes best to maintain the feel of an old photo when working on them.
