Royal Air Force

Hi all,
Just thought some of you might like a crack at this. As you can see from the ballpoint pen it's the RAF band from 1995.
I've posted my finished verison of it, if anyone has any thoughts on how I could get it better (I'm sure I'll get some ) please let me know.

Not sure if I should put this in the critiques forum,(I'm sure it'll get moved if needs be) however I'm not looking for that, it's just as a matter of interest and for anyone to play.

John

Re: Royal Air Force

And yes I know I've cloned out a plane but I have no idea of what it is, so I couldn't copy one in.

Re: Royal Air Force

Cant see any reason to play with it you did a very good job. And if you hadn't said anything i probably wouldn't have noticed the other plane missing.

Re: Royal Air Force

Great job John. As for the airplane you cloned out, My bet is that it's a BAE 146. A short to medium range plane used by a number of comercial airlines. Just a guess.

Re: Royal Air Force

Thanks Skip,
Yea I have copied the BAE 146 from the internet and tried to make it fit the photo, however I cannot get it to the same propotions without distorting it, it could be that the angle was not quite the same but it was the best large image I could find.

Regards.....John

Re: Royal Air Force

Great to see a picture of the R.A.F. Band. Sorry to see that the size of the bands have been cut down so much since my day. The R.A.(Woolwich) band used to have over 100 members.
Great job on the photo!

Re: Royal Air Force

looks good. nice handling of the color correction and a nice job of rebuilding in that bad spot. i'd have preferred to leave that other plane in, but it's not always feasible when rebuilding. and very nice on handling the ink.

Re: Royal Air Force

Thankyou Craig,

Yes I too would have liked the background plane left in, but as I've said, I can't find one on the net to paste in, if anyone can please link me to it.

Regards.....John

Re: Royal Air Force

My many thanks to NYBOB

Here is a version with the first link, I think I'll have a go with the second, I'm not quite satisfied with the colour match on this, although it does look better than without a plane at all.

Re: Royal Air Force

Firstly, may I say that your restoration is brilliant and has really come to life. What doesn't work for me is the sky above the building. The focus in this area is on the "writing/caption" and I notice when looking at it, that this is what my eye is drawn to. When really it is a secondary part of your great composition. So the restoration seems to me to be cut off at the top of the building and not really believeable as a "real" photo. You could create a false sky with clouds and still do your writing over the top. What do you think?

Re: Royal Air Force

Thankyou Liz,

I have tried your suggestion, and I am not sure it works, maybe cuts down the significance of the writing a little too much, although it could be my choice of sky.

I think the caption is a really important part of this restoration otherwise I would have just cloned it out, but I see your point.

What do you reckon?

John

Re: Royal Air Force

I liked your soft sky. The latest version has an...um....rebellious touch. Could be missing fireworks. What do you think?

Re: Royal Air Force

lol. Unbelievable!......And I mean, unbelievable. Perpective needs some work. But colours are fabulous! Put your text in the foreground on the tarmac and I reckon it's..........complete! I'd buy it.
