repairing obi pic

Here are copies of an obi pic of my late friend I tried to repair. Help & steps would be appreciated.Lawrence Mann's Obi-96.jpg

Well first scan the picture at a fairly high resolution.

Second Investigate the three channels and select the best channel. probably the red channel and use the channel mixer to bring to black and white.

Third correct the large cracks using the clone and healing brush tools.

Fourth use various blur tools to smooth out the half tone artifacts

Finally touch up with the paint brush.

My retouch was done promptly but I did use these steps. To do this properly would take a long time.
