Edit- Forgot to add, I also did a levels using the black and white points ..

FFT in Gimp followed by KPT Equalizer and Ximagic Denoiser plus a bit of levels adjustment

I used noiseware and photoshop elements, blur, denoise, healing brush and burn tool. this is what i came up with

To minimize the lines, I used Gaussian Blur + Neat Image + Dust&Scratches.

My results after each of these procedures in Attachment 1.

I didn't bother much about the background, but playing a bit more with it I got to
Attachment 2.

With this picture I first used Neat Image on the whole image then on Shadow and Luminosity Masks separately. This Tutorial explains how to do it.
