Gold Streaks on B&W

I received this photo a few years back and never got around to working on it. It has gold streaks like a big brush went over the photo at one point, I assume it's some kind of silvering. I am not too sure of what to do with removing the streaking except for desaturating . Any help would be appreciated.

Desaturating does not really get rid of the streaking very much. There are a number of ways to address the problem. Creating a damage mask, or cloning / healing, will be time consuming. One compromise method would be to:
- Duplicate the background
- Image>Apply Image; chose Blue channle as the source, normal blend mode, 100% opacity
- Apply a good noise filter to remove most of the remaining fine streaks.
- Apply high pass or USM sharpening being very careful to select the correct radius. For the 72 dpi resolution file you attached, I used a radius of 0.7.
From here you can do some clean up work to fix the remaining damaged areas.

Worked with the blue channel. Used a vignetting plug-in to remove some of the lines.
