My parents faded pic covered w/ cracks & creases

It has been over six years since I visited this website. Now I have an urgent need to work on my mom and dad's old pic we uncovered recently. They will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, so I want to present them a cleaned portrait on canvas as a reminder of their youth. I can color correct following the procedures I've read on this forum, but don't know how to proceed removing the cracks and creases on the attached photo. I'm using CS4 on mac. Please help, anyone? Many thanks!

Arudi, welcome back to RetouchPro. There is no way to automatically remove those cracks. You will need to use the Healing, Patch, and Clone Stamp tools to sample undamaged areas to repair over the cracks. You should start with the best high resolution scan you can make so that you can capture as much detail as remains in the orig picture. It will be much faster if you crop off the border and add a new one after you finish the repairs. You may also find it more effective to turn the image to B&W and after you have repaired it you can speia tone it using the action which is already built into Photoshop or you an convert the image to duotone.
Good luck with the restoration.
Regards, Murray
