New Poster, could use some tips

Hi, I am new to these forums, so please be gentle.

The attached photograph is the last remaining photo of my mother, and as you can see is very very damaged.

I had a go with PS, but for the life of me, I cannot do a decent job.

Could anybody give me any tips of help with the restoration of the photograph

the attachment i have included is a jpg, the quality is not as good as the original as I have had to adhere to the 100kb filesize to upload.

Re: New Poster, could use some tips

Go to channels menu
click on the 'Red' channel so it is the only one highlighted
select all (Ctrl+A)
copy (Ctrl+C)
click 'RGB' so all channels are highlighted again
go back to layers menu
create new layer (Shft+Ctrl+N)
Paste (Ctrl+V)
This should give you a good starting point for cloning and healing

OOPS! I forgot my manners..... Welcome to RetouchPRO thepalace1 Hope you enjoy your stay here and make lots of friends. Poke around, ask questions, offer help, have fun!

I agree with OlBaldy, use Red channel when splitting into RGB.
Lots of clone, scratch removal.

I used the red channel also. The healing tool and used various blurs with layer masks.
