Re: finished or not?

So many layers, so little time!

You may want to even out the unbalance
and blotchiness using darken/lighten brush.

Re: finished or not?

i had a go at this and the first thing i did was increase the size by 300%.

next, i used 'fade correction' to bring out more of the pic.

i also cropped it. if this was purely archival i wouldnt do that. i'd just leave it like it was, but there was an awful lot of dead space above the person and a fair amount below, so i cropped most of that out and into a more usable print format.

from there it was pretty much all clone, airbrush and push (smudge).

near the end i did use digital camera noise removal (psp) and desaturated a little more with a hue/sat adjustment layer.

i love old images like this

Re: finished or not?

I love these images too, You can instantly see how people were living in the 20's or so. I have many of them that I find in attic sales (when I was in France, though I don't know in UK) and used to make a collection about Disderi cards (which now are quite hard too find, and far too expensive).
anyway about the photo, I'd say honestly that I'm not a fan of the airbrush style eg.on the arms, but for the rest, man, you're pretty gifted ;-)

Re: finished or not?

A very nice job Craig keeping very much to the original - like it a lot

You mention 'fade correction', is this a particular tool or technique in PSP ?

Re: finished or not?

4personnen,

thanks

yes, i see what you mean about the airbrushed arms. i could do better.

thanks, tony w and yes, 'fade correction' is a psp tool/filter. it's a great one for bringing out more contrast in an image, especially faded images.

Re: finished or not?

Do you have any Nik filters for photoshop?

http://www.niksoftware.com/index/usa/entry.php

They have some great filters for black and white that make stuff really pop with just a few clicks. They have 30 day free trials on their software. Well worth the money though.

I really like your very first one, it has a nice dreamy quality about it.
