Repair or Cut Edges ?

I'm using this photo as an example as it really made me think about this. In a photo such as this, would you rebuild the lost parts of the photo or just even out the edges ? I have a strong urge to attempt to rebuild it, but I'm really interested in some outside input.

Thank you.

Re: Repair or Cut Edges ?

For my personal use I would straighten, crop a little all 4 sides and then rebuild the corners.
I'm trying to avoid rebuilding the girls hand.

Personally, I would straighten then do a little of both...

sort of like the quick example below..

Re: Repair or Cut Edges ?

Thank you everyone, it looks great, I like the mix of the two, I was thinking along those lines, just because it seems tedious and pointless to rebuild it all. Seems a better use of time to cut what you can and rebuild the rest.

Thank you again.

Re: Repair or Cut Edges ?

there is no need to rebuild for the sake of rebuilding. there is no important data there. but, like the folks have shown here, straightening and squaring makes sense and for that, a simple rebuild of those small areas where the squiare would otherwise be blank, would be fine

Works for me! Though not the prevalent framing for photos of this vintage, the image still lends itself well to this treatment. Saves a lot of aggravation, yet still looks precious.

Everyone here seems to have the same opinion, trim a little, rebuild a little, that would be my approach also and good job everyone! Happy new year!
