Unhappy Help fixing a double exposure

First post here I was wondering if anyone could help me fix an old photo which is double exposed.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

(The Porsche is what I'm interested in.)

Thanks.

Re: Help fixing a double exposure

hi screwloose and welcome to RP.

the question is, how much time do you want to put in on this? there's a lot to fix here and a fair amount of it is going to have to be manual operations like cloning and painting. the good news is there's a lot of detail still in the photo and a lot can be done to improve the pic. the bad news is the time and cost.

you could do a 10 minute fix with things like 'fade correction', tone mapping, noise reduction, contrasting tools and some of the other automated fixes, but none of those are going to remove the double exposure, they'll only bring out the picture more.

the next question is, what tools are you using or going to use and how much are you looking for others to do this for you on this site and how much are you willing to do yourself?

to remove the double exposure is going to be a much more difficult process. it runs across the car, across the children and part of the background. i'd go with cloning and painting and smudging to help this.

Re: Help fixing a double exposure

this took a fair amount of work. i did most of the things i recommended up above and then went to clone, airbrush and push for the most part. i also used a couple hue/sat adjustment layers to tone the car color and sky a bit.
