| Flight crew Hi Everyone I had another email and lost it so I had to join again. Have asked for help before and it was really useful. I am trying to fix my father in law's photo of a return after a night raid in Germany just before D-Day. Where the sun hits the bomber halifax the part has been clipped and the last crew member's face is indistinct. There is also a shadow where the bomber falls in front of the crews' bags. I tried using the tutorial with the plane by one of the members but haven't been able to really get the colours right. This is an untouched picture at a good resolution. I wonder if someone could assist me Last edited by Cate_59; 06-10-2011 at 03:39 AM. Reason: spelling |

| Re: Flight crew With a scan of 1200, there would be more options with the face. After duplicating the layer, one technique I like is to use the lasso tool with a 2-4px feather to darken and/or add contrast to an area that is lighter than the rest. I don't want to make a change of more than 6 points or it will show when I am just trying to darken/lighten a small area. I then redraw a little differently with the lasso tool another 6 points contrast, brightness (lower) or darken. Before I start, I move the slider all the way down on all 3 options (contrast, brightness, lightness) to see how many points and which option will give the best results. Than I know I am going to have to do this twice or 6 times, for example. I also darkened the man in the middle that was sitting. My thought is his mouth and smile might be closest to the faded man on the right and I might be able to clone a little of his mouth. I would then add a curves adjustment layer. If it were me, I wouldn't worry about the shadow at the bottom of the photo. I would just concentrate on the faces. |
