How? Hey there I'm quite new to Photo restoration although I have picked up many techniques through different tutorials I've learned this past year. Although I was looking through the Internet and stumbled across this picture and I have NO idea where you would even start to restore this picture. What sort of techniques would you use to get rid of the red staining on the picture and the markings? Thanks in advance! http://i52.tinypic.com/11uutqr.jpg ^New to site, not sure how to get the thumbnails on, sorry.

Re: How? For the red parts I'd take the green channel in luminosity mode, for the yellow parts the blue channel in luminosity mode. After that you'll have a pretty nice starting point on which you can build up repairing and on a new layer in "Color" mode you can fix the colors.

Re: How? Here is a very quick attempt using a technique I previously posted using just 3 layers. - Original - Hue/Sat Adjustment Layer - Original again on top set to Color Blend (and a secret sauce Color Overlay) All I did on the top layer is paint in two colors (no dodge or burn involved). One for the background and one for the skin color. This was for example only because skin tones are not consistent over the entire body. Just trying to demonstrate that you can get a long way with some simple steps. I targeted just fixing the red areas and background in the upper portion of the image only (getting ready for trip so could only spend a two minutes on the image) yet this could be repeated for yellow or other problem colors. Clearly a very damaged image so not matter what is done, it is just a starting point to a lot of hand work. In fact, unless this were for a Photo rescue job with some emotional value (or for practice) I would have to ask why bother: Screen shot 2011-08-16 at 7.31.14 AM.jpg
