Need Help : Burglary - Face Enhance

Greetings,

I'm working with the local Police department to solve this burglary case. It's a Money Safe Deposit Box burglary. The action was recorded by cctv, at least 3 person was recorded. Unfortunately the faces are not cleared.

The cctv model is PANASONIC BL-C101
The recorded images are in .BODY file extension
The media player is Panasonic Network Camera Recorder BB-HNP11 that's provided with the purchasing of the camera.

We are really appreciate if you can help us, at least you can try to enhance the image.
Thank you very much

A lot of jpg artifacts. Do not use as a proof of anything.

Re: Need Help : Burglary - Face Enhance

Yes, my cheap almost 10-year-old webcam can produce better images. Who makes these systems? I guess next time they upgrade the surveillance system they will know that image resolution and quality matters... :/

Anyway, judging from the small images uploaded here I believe you will not get anything good from these pictures since they are too small, and with heavy lossy compression. However, if you want us to give it our best shot, it would help if we had as much to work with as possible:
  1. The original image files - unaltered - in the .BODY format (if we figure out how to open them).
  2. The image files - unaltered - saved from the surveillance software to a lossless format like TIFF or PNG. Avoid JPEG if possible as it degrades quality.
  3. Make sure you include every image in the series (if the suspect is standing fairly still for a couple of images we might be able to merge several frames for a better result).
  4. If it recorded video and not only a series of still images, attach the video in the original format as well.

If you don't know of anywhere to upload it, try a service like http://ge.tt/ to share the files with us. It is practical to package the files together as a zip-file.

Seriously, you cannot take anything anything from these, except approximate bone structure, haircut and height. But I guess those can be seen on the video.

Fresh probably thought it was like a movie when the cop tells the person at the computer, "Zoom in." and then says, "Analyze." Then magically, it's a super sharp picture of the person's face.

I am baffled I would have thought the police department would have some sort of technology to deal with such a thing i've seen on tv they have all sort of equipment to make a face clearer.

Unfortunately police outside the TV have to deal with challenges like funding - and the laws of physics.

Re: Need Help : Burglary - Face Enhance

Im not in this industry of video enhancing but i thought multiple images could used to layer and subsequently sharpen a face, bit like layer stacking. However the frames need to be similar and not far apart in a sequence like this/

Nothing like hijacking a thread for a bit of fun. But this was worth it. That was superb.
