Re: Any ideas how to restore this photo Cupcake, it looks nice but I wanted to bring the signature back into it, since it was written to my mom, I would like to try and give it to my mom if I can figure a way to restore it. Thank you

Re: Any ideas how to restore this photo You might try the burn tool over the writing.

Re: Any ideas how to restore this photo Great work Cupcake As far as the signature, a couple things to consider. 1) If could be that the original signature ink beaded up just as it looks on your image and was how the original looked. That happens with some inks on some paper surfaces 2) If you have a finer resolution scan, you could trace the handwriting with the pen tool point by point or with the Freeform Pen tool (harder to do if you don't have a tablet) and then stroke the path with the brush tool (after selecting the brush width, hardness, and other brush dynamics). I just did a very quick pen tool outline of the word all and did a stroke. Just wanted to point out another option. I reduced the opacity a bit as well. You would have to take more time and energy than I did to make it look very realistic. signature.jpg

Re: Any ideas how to restore this photo Hello everyone. Was glad to find this site a while ago... . I'd print out the signature after making it as clear as possible with curves or levels. -Trace it using a physical pen and tracing paper. -Scan it. -Add it to the retouched image (where the signature has been removed) in a new layer. ... if I had a good graphic tablet, then I'd obviously trace it in a new layer like John suggested. Though I don't know what kind of brush setting to use to make it look like real ink.

Re: Any ideas how to restore this photo To get the best result possible, you would need a higher resolution so that they signature could be accurately restored. Beautiful picture of your Mom though! Happy New Year.

Re: Any ideas how to restore this photo I believe that John is correct with his assumption about the ink pen. I believe that this was signed with a fountain pen and the ink beaded on the gloss of the paper. A lot of the original signature can be restored simply by copying the signature to another level and sharpening it. Here is a quick down and dirty to show you what I mean.

With Mary Ellen's blue eyes I had to edit her as a dark blonde. The distracting background, smudges, discolorations and dirt was the most distracting element that demanded attention.
