maybe for a pumpkin

I'm not a fan of colourising images, some work but most don't look so good and a nice B&W or a subtle tint will still look great.

If you are not a friend of colourising images then why offer it as a service. You need to have a great interest and understanding about colourising images before you give an opinion. Whilst I understand it is hard to bring old black and white images to good as new but I try to achieve as close as I can get.

I shall introduce you to a great colourist who inspired.

Another thing try study caucasian skin tones faces are not one colour there are several colours. Please put your colourise work for critiques so you'll know how far you've got with your colourising because in my own opinion you have a long way to go with your colourising of black and white images.

You are going to disagree with me because you are charging for your services but I am proud to say I have improve much more with my colourising and have many very good critiques most of the times.

I am afraid you do not know what real skin tones looks like put your colourise next to a colour photos and see the difference. That flesh tones are more realistic than your copper colour skin tones perhaps I need to tweak it here and then adding some yellows that should do the trick.

Re: Too far gone to fix?

Fleshtones are, to me, the easiest to accomplish if you can balance your yellows and magentas. The two children in the Flickr image just need a boost of yellow to counteract the pink. As for James' attempts, they seem half-hearted regarding this project.
I'm not sure if he is working layer to layer or just trying to put everything on one, but there is no depth at all.
I would ask the OP if the original negative could be found (I'm guessing "no") and scanned. It is quite possible there never was any color to this and that it is actually a black and white that went sepia with age.

Re: Too far gone to fix?

I was able to extract some of the colors after applying some filters and adjustments, as you can see in the first image, I then tried to do some re-coloring to even out the pants, and sky, as well as the red on the shirt
