Photo with textured paper

I have read the posts on FFT but have not been able to find it for a Mac OSx. If there is a download for a Mac, does someone have a link? If not, the only other way I know to remove the texture is to create a duplicate layer, use a Gaussian blur, then use a mask so eye's, lips, etc. can show through from the previous layer clearly. If there is a better way, I would love some suggestions. I am on a time crunch (of course). Thanks.

You can use a program called imagej to achieve the same effect on the mac. you can down load it from here.

Re: Photo with textured paper

I appreciate the suggestion but after downloading, I have not been able to find anything on how to remove the texture which is blaring. I have attached a small patch. I have tried removing noise in image j as I have in Photoshop and it has not helped. I also read the post on using the high pass filter and then inverting, but in CS4 I don't know how to invert the filter. I've tried a combination of things and have not been able to find anything that works even decently. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Focus Magic is a phenomenal program which you really ought to check out. They'll let you do ten images for free, then they want $45 for registration (well worth it).

Check out http://www.dapplecreek.com/shannon.htm to see what I did with it last week.

Re: Photo with textured paper

Magic Focus: Despeckle (14 pixel repeat distance)
Magic Focus: Focus (4 pixel width, 200%, twice)
GIMP: Levels (adjusted white and black)

Probably ought to make two layers in GIMP/Photoshop and keep the edges from the original and the mid-tone areas (cheek, background) from the scrubbed version, but they called me to lunch...

i realize this is an old thread but i am not finding much new information on how to remove the texture of an image printed on luster/textured paper. i tried focus magic - it gave me two choices for reducing blur - but no option for despeckle at all. worked great for the blur - enhanced the paper texture.

didn't have ANY luck image imageJ at all. nada.

Re: Photo with textured paper

You probably really need to use the FFT filter (Fast Fourier Transform) to reduce textured paper effects. I do not know Magic Focus but from the example posted it just seems to blur the hell out of the image and loses what little detail there is.

A good tutorial here by ByRo http://retouchpro.com/tutorials/?m=show&id=185

If you are still having difficulty can you post your image or a section of it? Are you Mac or PC user?
